When Brent Mason looks at Kennedy Randolph, he doesn’t see the awkward, sweet girl who grew up next door. He sees a self-assured, stunning woman…who wants to crush the most intimate - and prized - parts of his anatomy beneath the heels of her Christian Louboutins.
Brent has never let the loss of his leg in a childhood accident affect his ability to lead a fulfilling life. He sets high goals–and then he reaches them.
And now he has his sights set on Kennedy.
When Kennedy looks at Brent Mason, all she sees is the selfish, Abercrombie & Fitch catalogue-worthy teenager who humiliated her in high school to join the popular crowd. A crowd that made those years a living hell.
She’s not a lovesick social outcast anymore - she’s a DC prosecutor with a long winning streak behind her. Brent is the opposing attorney in her next case and she thinks it’s time to put him through a little hell of his own.
But things aren’t exactly working out that way.
Because every fiery exchange has her wondering if he’s as passionate in the bedroom as he is in the courtroom. Each argument and objection only makes him want her more. In the end, Brent and Kennedy may just find themselves in love…or in contempt of court.
APPEALED is a sexy, humorous romance about first crushes, second chances and the final verdict of the heart.
"Appealed (The Legal Briefs, #3)" Reviews
Brent and Kennedy had something special and unique growing up. They started out as friends and were discovering one another as more when a combination of cruel people, miscommunication, and poor timing caused a rift between them that changed things forever. As adults, they meet again on opposing sides of a case but the spark they had as kids is certainly still there. Kennedy has grown into herself and is now a no nonsense ballbuster. Brent really likes who she is but also yearns for the girl she once was. The story is super cute. I enjoyed watching these two give each other a hard time and even more when they would sort of combust together. It took a bit to work through their issues and finally put the cards on the table but it was very much worth it. The plot and characters were interesting. The internal conflict realistic. I loved the scheming by the mommas. A wonderful addition to the series. Safety: No OW/Sharing. Kennedy starts off in a relationship with a OM that she knows is cheating on her. Neither are Vs. No rape/abuse.
Finished reading my first book of 2017!!!
I absolutely adored this book and I couldn’t put it down. It was funny, witty, sweet, emotional and sexy second chance romance. Oh and story was told from male‘s POV (Brent‘s POV)!
Brent Mason was amazing, cocky, hilarious (i laughed so hard) confident, and adorable. I loved his sarcasm and his humor! Kennedy was sassy, smart, and wonderful women with trust issues. I really loved these two characters together!
It was my first book by Emma Chase but definitely not my last!
I had a lot of fun reading this book. It's totally hilarious, sexy, and with a mild angst going on. Another book added to my favorite rom com!
Appealed is the third book of The Legal Briefs series and it's all about the youngest and the wealthiest lawyer in the Mason-Becker-Santos-Shaw law firm, Brent Mason. Brent became infatuated with his childhood best friend Kennedy Randolph when they were in High School. Their parents, who are both filthy rich and influential, are family friends. Brent and Kennedy shared a genuine friendship while growing up but one night they realized that they're into each other. They eventually had a hot teenage love affair. However, certain things ruined their blooming relationship which led to their unpleasant break-up. Now years later they reunited and this time, they're already both successful lawyers. Unfortunately, they're on the opposite sides as Kennedy serves as a prosecuting attorney for the case which Brent defenses.
To be honest, I had doubts if this book will win me over after reading Jake's story in the second book which I really enjoyed a lot. But wow, I didn't expect this book to own me as much as the second book did! Brent's story and his hilarious POV didn't fail to make me laugh, smile, and feel awed. It was such a pleasure to read something that has an over-the-top (in a good way) chemistry between the main characters and spot-on witty dialogues that certainly entertained. My favorite scenes were the ones where Brent and Kennedy exchanged sexy banters inside the courtroom. Wow, so much verbal action going on!
Apart from the fact that this book was entertaining, it had an emotional depth and more importantly, a substance. There was family and friendship values thrown in. I also loved the romantic build-up which was strong enough to make the story likeable. The characters also didn't delve much into annoying and unnecessary dramas, so there's that. And yes, there were certainly lots of cheese but I love it nonetheless. In this book, I was definitely cheese-spoiled! :)
’For all the girls next door - and the boys who love them.’
I was all in when I read that dedication. The idea of the boy next door falling in love with the neighbor girl is iconic and one that has women saying, “Awe!”
”A simple story about a handsome prince, a good-hearted princess, and their sweet love.”
Awe, doesn’t that sound lovely and all it needs is the magical - “They lived happily ever after.” As with any story nothing comes easy and especially second chances. Brent is the guy during his high school days that all the other males wanted to be and all the females fawned over. Now, that he’s in his early thirties and has become less of the ‘young and dumb’ stage and more of mature adult, he’s become a guy to be admired.
Kennedy, the girl next door, was more of the nerdy social circle during her high school years. Fourteen years has passed since she’s seen Brent and she’s back in town for work. Her first line of business is a criminal case against Brent’s young client.
The case these two are trying against each other hits close to home for me. It’s about a young teenage boy who feels unseen and does something drastic to get the attention of those around him. His actions were of the criminal nature but his intent wasn’t. It was like Ms. Chase knew my son’s friend who did something similar to the teenager in the story. This is the second book by Ms. Chase where a young male character has found himself brushing up against the law. The previous book had an even younger male who found himself pushing the boundaries with the law. As stated by many others besides myself… Ms. Chase knows the male mind quite well.
The second book, Sustained, remains as my favorite Emma Chase book written to date and this book comes in second place for favorites by Ms. Chase. I love the older characters, the witty banter, the intriguing story line, and most of all the male point of view. Thank you, Ms. Chase, for your continued pursuant in writing humorous renditions from male mind.

4 "Waldo" Stars
Emma Chase delivers a second chance romance that is written in her delectable all male pov. The characters from the previous books return for what seems to be the final book in the series. This time it’s funny, sexy Brent Mason’s turn.
Brent’s childhood friend/neighbor and first love returns to town. Elle Randolph Kennedy isn’t happy to see him and she’s holding onto some huge past hurts where he’s concerned. It’s been fourteen years since they have seen one another. Elle also happens to be the federal prosecutor on one of Brent’s cases and so it’s game on with the sexual tension, insults and humor.
“What’d you do to your face?” she asks, folding her arms.
I touch my chin. “I grew a beard.”
“Well ungrow it. It looks like a vagina from a 1970's porn film.”
Overtime Elle reveals the events that have soured her towards Brent. They spare against one another in the courtroom and in the bedroom. Elle was the girl that always left Brent thinking about what might have been.
Brent and Elle’s story is fast paced and witty. I really loved Brent, his butler, his physiatrist and his knack for nicknames. He made a wonderful hero and the author does a great job gifting glimpses into past events that shattered Elle and sparked her tough exterior.
”When I look at you, think about you, I can’t decide if I want to fuck you, strangle you, or just hold you in my arms. Usually all three. And if that’s not love, I don’t know what is.”
Brent fixes his past wrongs while squaring off against Elle in the courtroom. I liked how things went for his client the hacker (he needs a book) and there is some scary drama when Elle’s safety is at risk. Brent struggles with his fears and these two find the once in a lifetime common ground they lost years ago. The story also includes not one but an epilogue and an extended one which will leave readers sporting satisfied smiles.
