"Where To Go When (Eyewitness Travel Guides)" Reviews
I love DK books. (Is it weird to have a favorite publishers? Because mine is DK. Their books are always top quality.)
Anyway this is a great travel guide, giving the ins and outs of the best times to travel to certain destinations around the world during which time of the year. The book is chock full of information, and the photography is spectacular, which is definitely a DK tademark. The book gives equally time to destinations on all seven continents, highlighting hidden gems among the more well known spots. Being a large, hardback book, it's a steal at $25. You won't be able to stick it in your pocket, though. ;) Even though I don't plan to do any globe trotting any time soon, this book is fun eye candy for dreamers.
According this book, I'm off by a month for both my Maui (Feb) and Cayman Islands (Nov) trips this year, but who cares--I'm going to Maui and Cayman Islands this year! I wasn't so captured by the idea of this book's organization around when to go where, but the beautiful and alluring photography and just enough enticing information will make you want to go Whenever to many of these places. This will be a great book to return to when making plans or dreaming of where to go next--Charleston or Easter Island in April? Bay of Fundy or Ecuador in September? So many places, so little time.
Breathtaking National Geographic-like pictures and a sense of adventure guaranteed. Where to go when? Well, everywhere. This book names the popular and less popular spots and has some interesting takes on what you can do in your vacation and what time may be best to hit certain destinations. The only problem is that you'll need a lot of vacation--nothing short of 2 or 3 years straight! That last part I am still planning...
So if you have a lot of time and money and enjoy travelling, this is for you. If you don't have a lot of time and money, it will be a reason for you to strive for a lot of time and money, as it will reinforce (or awaken) your love for travelling.
Great coffee-table book and a starting point for further, more detailed, vacation planning.
A truly masterpiece among the travel books. The selection and mix of pictures with useful information is spectacular. Let's take an example, page 150/151; Yunnan in China. At one glance i geat a pretty good picture of the area with 9 pictures plus a world map and the location of Yunnan. I can find easily Dos and Don'ts, getting there, getting around and what not to miss. This book finds the perfect balance between a large collection of travel ideas and sufficient information on the recommended location. Many other books simply overload the reader with too many ideas while not providing sufficient pictures/information. With'Where To Go When, DK achieved a masterpiece among travel books!
A very interesting book for the traveler....active or armchair! The book is organized by the months of the year and suggests where to travel in any given month. It's loaded with pictures, descriptions and travel hints.
